graffiti is not a crime! :: Graffiti Anti-War Solidarity Center

Statement

On March 20th 2003, the U.S. and the British government started attacking on Iraq. On the same day, Japanese prime minister Koizumi expressed that the Japanese government would support this war.

April 17th in the evening, one man had been arrested by the police in a small park in Suginami, Tokyo. This man was arrested on the suspect of "property destruction". He has been caught and got arrested by the police when he was spray-painting with black and red on the wall of the public toilet in the park. The graffiti said NO WAR and SPECTACLE SOCIETY.

The next day when his friends noticed that he has been arrested, they went to the Ogikubo Police Department where he is locked up and put in some clothes and money for him. His work colleagues decided to support him with his fee for his lawyer and to supply his daily needs being under the custody.

The prosecutors are obsessively investigating on this case and searched his house, and keeping him in custody for an usually long period for just writing a graffiti on the wall. Finally they prosecuted him on 28th of April on the charge of "construction destruction", which is much more serious that they can charge him up to 5 years imprisonment while "property destruction" charges: " up to 3 year imprisonment or fine of 100,000 or less".

We cannot bare this act by the authority. We will do as much as we can to support this anti-war graffiti bloke who is still kept in custody.
